This page explains what happens to your information when you visit falah.org. We have kept it short and plain.
The short version
You can read every page, every book and every question and answer without giving us your name, your email, or any detail about yourself. Nothing is gated and there is nothing to sign in to. We do keep a record of the visit itself, including your IP address and your device, and the next section sets out exactly what that holds.
We ask for your details in one place only: the form to join the weekly Majlis.
We do not sell anything. We do not sell your information. We do not send marketing.
When you are only reading
We keep our own record of how the site is read, so we know which talks, books and answers people find useful, and so we can tell a returning reader from someone arriving for the first time. It records the page title and address, how far you scrolled, how long you stayed, the date, and where you came from, including the words you searched for if a search engine sent you here.
It also records your IP address, the approximate country, region and city that address points to, and your device, operating system, browser, screen size and time zone. Because of this, visits made from the same device can be linked to one another over time.
It does not record your name or your email address. We never ask for them in order to read anything, there is nothing to sign in to, and the books stay free and open to everyone.
Why we keep it: the books are given away, so this is the only way we can tell whether they are reaching anyone, in which countries they are being read, and which questions people most need answered. It is read by the people who run the site and by no one else. It is never sold and never used for advertising. The one exception is the country and city: our host does not tell us where a visit came from, so the address is sent to a geolocation service to turn it into a place name, and for nothing else.
If you would rather not be counted at all, you are welcome to ask and we will remove what we hold. The contact details are at the foot of this page.
We also use Google Analytics. Google receives your IP address, your browser and device details, and the pages you visit, and it places cookies in your browser. Google handles that information under its own privacy policy, not ours.
You can switch this off. Google publishes a browser add-on that turns Analytics off on every site it is used on, including this one, and most browsers also let you block cookies or switch on tracking protection. The site works exactly the same either way.
Our web host keeps ordinary server logs, which include IP addresses, as every website does.
When you join the weekly Majlis
The form asks for your name and your phone or WhatsApp number, and asks you to tick a box to confirm you are happy for us to keep them.
We use them for one thing: to send you the joining details and reminders for the Majlis, and to reply if you have written to us.
They are stored on this website and emailed to us so a person sees them. Only the people who run the site can read them. We do not add you to any other list and we do not pass your number to anyone.
Video and WhatsApp
The talks are on YouTube and play inside our pages. When a video loads, YouTube may place its own cookies and see that you watched it, just as if you had opened it on YouTube. The same applies to the Instagram, Facebook and YouTube links once you click them.
The green WhatsApp button opens a conversation with us. Nothing is sent until you choose to send it, and what you write is held in WhatsApp under its own terms.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
- We do not run adverts, and there are no advertising trackers.
- We do not have comments, so there is no comment data.
- There is no account to create and nothing to log in to.
- We do not send newsletters or marketing messages.
How long we keep things
Majlis details are kept while you are attending, and removed when you ask. The reading records are kept so we can see how the books and answers travel over time. They do include your IP address and your device, so if you would rather yours were removed, write to us and we will remove them. Google keeps its own data for the period set in its settings.
Seeing or deleting what we hold
Write to us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. You do not need to give a reason and we will not ask for one.
Children
This site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect anything from children. If a child has sent us their details, write to us and we will delete them.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, the date below changes with it.
