How much money is ‘enough’? However much I earn, the target just keeps moving further away.کتنا پیسہ 'کافی' ہوتا ہے؟ میں جتنا بھی کماتا ہوں، ہدف بس اور دور ہوتا چلا جاتا ہے۔
The target keeps moving because it is built to move. Once that is clear, most of the anxiety in the question loses its grip.
The heart was made so wide that no amount of gold fills it. That is not a defect in you, it is how we were made. Our master, peace be upon him, described the ache plainly:
“If the son of Adam had a valley full of gold, he would long to have two, and nothing fills his mouth except dust; and Allah turns in mercy to whoever turns to Him in repentance.”

He is not scolding, he is describing, and he ends by opening the door of return. So stop waiting for the outward number to say “enough,” because it never will. Those who study how people think about their earnings notice the same pattern: as a person’s income rises, the figure they name as “enough” rises along with it. The number keeps moving because it is the heart doing the measuring, not the ledger.
And the Qur’an shows where this counting leads if it becomes the whole of a life:
“The mutual competition for increase distracts you, until you visit the graves.”

So where is the fixed point that stands still while the target flees? It is contentment, qana’ah, a richness that lives inside and does not move. Our master, peace be upon him, handed us the true measure:
“Richness is not in the abundance of possessions; true richness is the richness of the soul.”

You need not stop earning, and ambition is not a fault. Keep working, keep providing, enjoy the good Allah gives. Only let gratitude, rather than the next figure, be where your heart actually lives. The one who can say “alhamdulillah, this is enough” has already arrived at the place everyone else is still running toward.
One small step: Tonight, before sleep, name three provisions Allah has already placed in your hands, and say “alhamdulillah, this is enough” over each one.
ہدف اگر آگے سرکتا چلا جا رہا ہے تو اس میں حیرت کی بات نہیں، اس کی فطرت ہی سرکنا ہے۔ آمدنی جتنی بڑھتی ہے، ‘کافی’ کا پیمانہ بھی اتنا ہی آگے ہٹ جاتا ہے۔
دل کچھ ایسا وسیع بنایا گیا ہے کہ سونے چاندی کے انبار بھی اسے نہیں بھرتے۔ یہ آپ کی کوئی خرابی نہیں، بنانے والے نے انسان کو ایسا ہی بنایا ہے۔ آقا ﷺ نے یہی بات صاف لفظوں میں فرما دی۔
”اگر آدم کے بیٹے کے پاس سونے سے بھری ایک وادی ہو تو وہ دوسری کی خواہش کرے گا، اور اس کا منہ مٹی کے سوا کوئی چیز نہیں بھرتی، اور جو توبہ کرے اللہ اس کی توبہ قبول فرماتا ہے۔“

یہاں ڈانٹ نہیں، صرف تشخیص ہے، اور ساتھ ہی توبہ اور رجوع کا دروازہ بھی کھول دیا گیا۔ اس لیے باہر کے ہندسے سے یہ توقع چھوڑ دیجیے کہ وہ کبھی ‘بس، اتنا کافی ہے’ کہے گا۔ لوگوں کی کمائی پر جو تحقیق ہوئی ہے، وہ بھی یہی بتاتی ہے، آمدنی جتنی بڑھتی جائے، لوگ ‘کافی’ کا عدد بھی اتنا ہی اوپر بتانے لگتے ہیں۔ ماپنے والا بہی کھاتہ نہیں، ماپنے والا دل ہے، اسی لیے پیمانہ ایک جگہ ٹھہرتا نہیں۔
قرآن نے دکھایا کہ یہ گنتی اگر پوری زندگی پر چھا جائے تو کہاں لے جاتی ہے۔
”زیادہ حاصل کرنے کی ہوس نے تمہیں غفلت میں ڈال دیا، یہاں تک کہ تم قبروں تک جا پہنچے۔“

تو پھر وہ ٹھہری ہوئی جگہ کون سی ہے جو ہدف کے بھاگتے رہنے پر بھی اپنے مقام پر قائم رہتی ہے؟ قناعت۔ وہ دولت جو اندر رہتی ہے اور جگہ نہیں بدلتی۔ آقا ﷺ نے اصل کسوٹی ہمارے ہاتھ میں دے دی۔
”مالداری سازوسامان کی کثرت کا نام نہیں، بلکہ اصل مالداری تو دل کا غنی ہو جانا ہے۔“

کمانا چھوڑنے کی ضرورت نہیں، اور محنت کی لگن میں کوئی برائی نہیں۔ کماتے رہیے، گھر والوں کا خیال رکھیے، اللہ کی دی ہوئی نعمتوں سے فائدہ اٹھائیے۔ بس دل کا ٹھکانا اگلا ہندسہ نہ ہو، شکر ہو۔ جو ملی ہوئی چیز پر ‘الحمد للہ، یہ کافی ہے’ کہہ لیتا ہے، وہ اس جگہ پہنچ چکا ہے جہاں باقی لوگ ابھی دوڑ رہے ہیں۔
ایک چھوٹا قدم: آج رات سونے سے پہلے، اپنی زندگی کی تین ایسی نعمتیں دل میں گنیے جو پیسوں سے نہیں خریدی جا سکتیں، اور ہر ایک پر آہستہ سے ‘الحمد للہ’ کہیے۔
