Everyone tells me I have to choose between deen and dunya. Is it really true that I can’t have both?ہر کوئی کہتا ہے کہ مجھے دین اور دنیا میں سے کسی ایک کو چننا ہوگا۔ کیا واقعی ایسا ہے کہ میں دونوں کو ساتھ نہیں رکھ سکتا؟
Someone has placed a heavy choice on you, and it is not a real choice. You have been told that the deen and the dunya pull in opposite directions, so that a step toward one is a step away from the other. That is a habit of speech our times have fallen into, not a teaching of our faith. Allah did not make you a bird with one wing.
Look at how the Qur’an sets the balance, joining the two in a single breath:
“But seek, by means of what Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter, and do not forget your share of this world.”
Qur’an, Al-Qasas 28:77 · meaning
Your share of the world is not a distraction from the Hereafter. It is the vehicle you travel in. The wealth in your hand, the position you earned, the skill you sharpened, all of it becomes provision for the akhirah the moment your intention lifts it. This is not either-or. It is one life, pointed at one Lord.
And the believer is taught to ask for both at once, with no embarrassment at wanting good here as well as there:
“Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
Qur’an, Al-Baqarah 2:201 · meaning
The best of hearts lived exactly this way. When Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf, may Allah be pleased with him, reached Madinah with nothing, a brother from the Ansar offered to share his wealth and his home. He wanted to stand on his own feet and eat from his own hand, so he answered only:
“Just show me the way to the marketplace.”
Sahih al-Bukhari (2049) · meaning
He went to the market and traded with skill, Allah opened the doors of provision to him, and he poured what he earned into the way of Allah until giving became second nature. His trade did not shrink his faith, and his faith gave his trade its meaning. Many people today weigh career against worship as though one can only be bought with the other’s loss. Your tradition says otherwise: the hand that signs the contract is the same hand that goes down in sujood, and both belong to one servant.
So put that choice down. You were never asked to be half a person.
One small step: Before your next work task tomorrow, pause for three seconds and quietly say, “O Allah, let this too be for You,” so that one ordinary act of dunya is folded into your akhirah.
یہ بات آپ کو بار بار سنائی جاتی ہے کہ دین اور دنیا دو الگ راستے ہیں اور ایک ہی کو چننا پڑے گا۔ یہ ہمارے زمانے کی ایک عام غلط فہمی ہے، دین کا حکم نہیں۔ اللہ نے آپ کو ایک زندگی دی ہے اور اسی ایک زندگی میں دونوں جہان سنوارنے کی گنجائش بھی رکھ دی ہے۔ چھوڑنا کچھ نہیں ہے، سلیقے سے جوڑنا ہے۔
قرآن نے یہ توازن ایک ہی جملے میں سمجھا دیا ہے۔
”اور جو کچھ اللہ نے تجھے دیا ہے اس سے آخرت کا گھر تلاش کر، اور دنیا سے اپنا حصہ بھی نہ بھول۔“
قرآن، سورۃ القصص ۲۸:۷۷ · مفہوم
غور کیجیے، دنیا کا حصہ چھوڑنے کا حکم نہیں ہوا، اسے نہ بھولنے کا کہا گیا ہے۔ آپ کا کاروبار، آپ کی محنت، آپ کی حلال کمائی، یہ دین کے مقابل کھڑی کوئی چیز نہیں، یہی وہ سیڑھی ہے جس پر قدم رکھ کر آدمی آخرت کے درجے پاتا ہے۔ نیت سنور جائے تو دفتر کی میز بھی عبادت کی جگہ بن جاتی ہے اور بازار کا لین دین بھی نیکی کا میدان۔
دعا بھی ہمیں یہی سکھائی گئی ہے، دونوں گھروں کی بھلائی ایک ساتھ مانگنے کی۔
”اے ہمارے رب! ہمیں دنیا میں بھی بھلائی عطا فرما اور آخرت میں بھی بھلائی، اور ہمیں آگ کے عذاب سے بچا۔“
قرآن، سورۃ البقرہ ۲:۲۰۱ · مفہوم
اسلاف کی زندگیاں اسی کا نمونہ ہیں۔ صحابہ میں بہت سے ایسے تھے جو دن کو بازار میں سودا کرتے اور وہی کمائی اللہ کی راہ میں خرچ کر دیتے۔ حضرت عبدالرحمٰن بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ ہجرت کر کے مدینہ پہنچے تو ان کے پاس کچھ نہ تھا۔ ایک انصاری بھائی نے اپنا مال اور گھر بار تک پیش کر دیا، مگر انہوں نے اپنے ہاتھ کی کمائی چاہی اور اتنا ہی کہا۔
”مجھے تو بس بازار کا راستہ دکھا دو۔“
صحیح بخاری (۲۰۴۹) · مفہوم
پھر انہوں نے تجارت کی، اللہ نے اس مال میں برکت ڈالی، اور اسی مال سے کھلے ہاتھوں خرچ کرتے رہے۔ ایک ہاتھ میں ترازو تھا اور دوسرا ہاتھ دینے کے لیے کھلا ہوا۔ تجارت نے ان کے ایمان کو کم نہیں کیا، ایمان نے ان کی تجارت کو معنی دیا۔ آج لوگ کام اور عبادت کو ایک دوسرے کا حریف سمجھ بیٹھے ہیں، جیسے ایک بڑھے تو دوسرا گھٹ جائے۔ بات اس کے برعکس ہے، جو ہاتھ کاغذ پر دستخط کرتا ہے وہی سجدے میں زمین پر ٹکتا ہے، اور دونوں ایک ہی بندے کے ہیں۔
سو یہ بوجھ اتار دیجیے۔ آپ سے آدھا آدمی بننے کو نہیں کہا گیا۔
ایک چھوٹا قدم: آج کام پر جاتے وقت دل میں یہ نیت باندھ لیں کہ ”یہ رزق میں اپنے گھر والوں اور اللہ کی مخلوق کی خدمت کے لیے حلال طریقے سے کما رہا ہوں“، اور دن ڈھلے تھوڑا سا، چاہے چند سکے ہی سہی، کسی ضرورت مند کے ہاتھ پر رکھ دیں۔
