I feel I must beat my competitors by any means, and everyone bends the rules anyway. Can I really stay fully honest and still survive in business?مجھے لگتا ہے کہ مجھے ہر طریقے سے اپنے حریفوں کو مات دینی چاہیے، اور ویسے بھی سب اصول توڑتے ہیں۔ کیا میں واقعی مکمل دیانتدار رہ کر بھی کاروبار میں چل سکتا ہوں؟
The market can feel like a fast river, and when everyone around you seems to be swimming with the current of cut corners, it is hard not to wonder whether the honest man simply drowns. He does not. The honest road is not the road of the loser, it is the quiet road of the one who actually lasts.
Consider a morning from the life of the Prophet, peace be upon him. He walked out to the place of prayer, and in front of him lay a market in full motion, people buying and selling, the very world you stand in every day. He did not walk past it. He turned and called out to the traders, and what he said to them that morning still stands.
“He went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to the place of prayer, and he saw the people buying and selling. He called out, ‘O company of merchants!’ and they turned their necks and their gaze towards him, and he said, ‘Merchants will be raised on the Day of Resurrection as wrongdoers, except the one who fears Allah, acts righteously, and speaks the truth.'”

Notice what he did not say. He did not tell those traders the market was fine, and he does not tell you that your reading of it is mistaken. He confirmed it. Then, in a single clause, he opened a door in that verdict, and the three things he placed in that doorway are exactly the three you fear will cost you, that is, fear of Allah, righteous dealing, and truthful speech. So the honest trader is not the simple soul who has misunderstood the game. He is the one man the Prophet’s own tongue lifted out of it, and the barakah of Allah rests where he stands. The world says honesty is a handicap. The Prophet, peace be upon him, says it is the only thing that survives.
Then there is the worry sitting underneath the question, the rent, the salaries, the mouths that depend on you. On that Allah speaks to you directly, and His promise is a door where you thought there was only wall.
“And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out, and will provide for him from where he does not expect.”
Qur’an, At-Talaq 65:2-3 · meaning
The provision comes from where you do not expect. You are counting only the deals you can see. Allah is arranging the ones you cannot yet imagine. The urge to crush a competitor by any means is fear speaking, and where trust in Allah enters, that fear settles down. And He reminds every trader what actually lasts.
“And do not deprive people of their due. What remains lawful from Allah is better for you, if you are believers.”

A small profit that is clean is worth more than a heap with someone else’s right buried in it. There is even a worldly echo of this. Think of the shops and the names you yourself go back to, year after year. They are almost always the ones whose word you can lean on, and trust like that is not bought, it is built slowly, one honest dealing at a time. Barakah leaves its fingerprints even on the ledger.
One small step: In your very next dealing, name one small thing you would normally leave unsaid to gain an edge, and say it plainly instead. Notice how your own heart rests afterward.
بازار کی رفتار ایسی ہے کہ آدمی کو لگتا ہے، جو سیدھی راہ پر چلے گا وہ پیچھے رہ جائے گا۔ یہ خیال آج بہت لوگوں کے دل پر دستک دیتا ہے۔ مگر بات اس کے برعکس ہے۔ دیانتدار سوداگر ہارنے والا نہیں، اصل میں ٹکنے والا وہی ہے۔
ایک دن نبی کریم ﷺ عیدگاہ کی طرف تشریف لے جا رہے تھے۔ سامنے بازار اپنی پوری رونق میں تھا، خرید و فروخت کا وہی شور، وہی گہما گہمی جو ہر روز تمہارے سامنے رہتی ہے۔ آپ ﷺ خاموشی سے گزر نہیں گئے، تاجروں کو پکارا، اور جو اُس روز اُن سے فرمایا، وہ آج بھی جوں کا توں سامنے ہے۔
”حضرت رفاعہ رضی اللہ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ وہ نبی کریم ﷺ کے ہمراہ عیدگاہ کی طرف نکلے، تو آپ ﷺ نے لوگوں کو خرید و فروخت میں مصروف دیکھا۔ آپ ﷺ نے پکارا، اے تاجروں کی جماعت! لوگوں نے آپ ﷺ کی پکار پر لبیک کہا اور اپنی گردنیں اور نگاہیں آپ ﷺ کی طرف اٹھا لیں۔ تب آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا، بےشک تاجر قیامت کے دن گناہگار اٹھائے جائیں گے، سوائے اُس کے جو اللہ سے ڈرے، نیکی کرے اور سچ بولے۔“
نبی کریم ﷺ، جامع ترمذی (۱۲۱۰) · مفہوم
ذرا غور کرو کہ آپ ﷺ نے کیا نہیں فرمایا۔ یہ نہیں فرمایا کہ بازار کا حال ٹھیک ہے، اور نہ تمہارے اس اندیشے کو جھٹلایا کہ لوگ اصولوں میں نرمی کر لیتے ہیں، بلکہ وہی بات کھول کر رکھ دی۔ لیکن اسی ایک جملے میں نجات کا دروازہ بھی کھول دیا، اور اُس دروازے پر جو تین چیزیں رکھی گئیں، وہ عین وہی ہیں جن سے تمہیں نقصان کا ڈر ہے، یعنی اللہ کا خوف، نیک معاملہ اور سچی زبان۔ سو دیانتدار تاجر وہ بھولا آدمی نہیں جو بازار کو سمجھ نہ سکا، وہ تو وہی ہے جسے نبی کریم ﷺ نے اپنی زبانِ مبارک سے سب سے الگ کر لیا، اور جہاں وہ کھڑا ہے، وہیں برکت بھی ٹھہری ہوئی ہے۔
اب رہ گیا یہ اندیشہ کہ اصول پر چلتے ہوئے رزق تنگ ہو جائے گا۔ کرایہ ہے، تنخواہیں ہیں، کئی گھر تمہارے کاروبار سے جڑے ہوئے ہیں۔ اسی جگہ اللہ تعالیٰ خود بات فرماتے ہیں، اور جہاں تمہیں دیوار دکھائی دیتی ہے، وہاں دروازہ رکھ دیتے ہیں۔
”اور جو اللہ سے ڈرتا ہے، اللہ اس کے لیے (مشکل سے) نکلنے کی راہ بنا دیتا ہے، اور اسے وہاں سے رزق دیتا ہے جہاں سے اسے گمان بھی نہیں ہوتا۔“
قرآن، سورۃ الطلاق ۶۵:۲-۳ · مفہوم
رزق وہاں سے آتا ہے جہاں کا گمان بھی نہ ہو۔ تمہارا حساب صرف اُن سودوں تک ہے جو نظر کے سامنے ہیں، اور اللہ اُن راستوں کو ترتیب دے رہا ہے جو ابھی تمہارے وہم میں بھی نہیں۔ حریفوں کو ہر قیمت پر پچھاڑ دینے کی جو آگ دل میں اٹھتی ہے، وہ دراصل ڈر سے پیدا ہوتی ہے، اور جہاں توکل آ جائے، وہ ڈر خودبخود بیٹھ جاتا ہے۔
حضرت شعیب علیہ السلام نے اپنی قوم کو کاروبار کے بارے میں یہی بات سمجھائی تھی۔
”اور لوگوں کو ان کی چیزیں کم کر کے نہ دو۔ اللہ کا حلال کیا ہوا بچا کھچا (نفع) تمہارے لیے بہتر ہے، اگر تم مومن ہو۔“
قرآن، سورۃ ہود ۱۱:۸۵-۸۶ · مفہوم
یعنی تھوڑا نفع جو صاف اور حلال ہو، وہ اُس ڈھیر سے بہتر ہے جس میں کسی کا حق دبا ہوا ہو۔ اس کی گواہی دنیا میں بھی مل جاتی ہے۔ خود سوچو، برسوں تم کن دکانوں پر لوٹ کر جاتے ہو۔ اُنہی پر، جن کی بات پر بھروسا ہو۔ ایسا بھروسا خریدا نہیں جاتا، ایک ایک سچے سودے سے آہستہ آہستہ بنتا ہے۔ سو اطمینان سے کہو، ہاں، دیانت کے ساتھ کاروبار چلتا بھی ہے، اور اصل کامیابی کا راستہ یہی ہے۔
ایک چھوٹا قدم: آج اپنے کاروبار میں ایک ایسا معاملہ چن لو جہاں دل کہتا ہو کہ گاہک کو تھوڑا کم بتا کر فائدہ اٹھایا جا سکتا تھا، اور وہاں پورا سچ بول کر، پورا حق دے کر سودا کرو، اور دل میں کہو، ”یا اللہ، یہ نفع تیرے حوالے، تُو مجھے وہاں سے دے جہاں سے میرا گمان بھی نہیں۔“
