I hear that riya is a ‘hidden shirk’ and it frightens me so much that I’m scared to do any good deed at all. How do I move forward without this fear paralysing me?میں سنتا ہوں کہ ریا 'چھپا ہوا شرک' ہے اور یہ مجھے اتنا ڈراتا ہے کہ میں کوئی نیکی کرنے سے بھی گھبراتا ہوں۔ میں اس ڈر سے مفلوج ہوئے بغیر آگے کیسے بڑھوں؟
This fear is not the sign of a hard heart. You have heard that riya, doing good so that others may admire us, is called a hidden shirk, and the size of that word has frightened you until you are almost afraid to act at all. Let me show you why the fear itself, handled rightly, is on your side.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, warned us of this quiet danger so that we would guard our deeds, not abandon them. He said,
“The thing I fear most for you is the lesser shirk: showing off.”

Notice who he was speaking to. He was warning the companions, the best hearts there have been, not to shame them but to keep their gold from tarnishing. A warning given in love is a form of protection, like a father saying “mind the step” to the child whose hand he is already holding.
And the One you are trying to please is not waiting to condemn you. He calls out with no edge in His voice at all,
“Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins.”

If His forgiveness reaches the one who has wandered far, it certainly reaches the one standing right here, worried only that his intention may not be pure enough. A heart that fears riya has already turned toward Him; the heedless heart never questions its motive at all. And riya is not a dragon that swallows every good deed. Riya is when the deed is done for people from the very start. If you began for Allah and a stray thought came in the middle, brushing that thought aside is itself an act of worship, and Allah does not waste that effort.
So keep walking. Give the charity, pray the prayer, help the neighbour, and renew the intention as you go, the way a traveller glances at the sun to check his direction without ever stopping. The deed is not to be abandoned. The intention is only to be pointed home again, and again, and Allah loves that returning.
One small step: Before your next good deed, take one breath and say quietly, “O Allah, for You alone,” then do the deed without inspecting your heart again, and leave the rest to His mercy.
یہ ڈر بُرے دل کی علامت نہیں۔ جسے ریا کی ذرا سی آہٹ سے بھی خوف آئے، اُس کے اندر اخلاص کا چراغ جل رہا ہوتا ہے۔ ہاں، شیطان کا داؤ یہ بھی ہے کہ گناہ کی طرف نہ کھینچ سکے تو ڈر کو اِس قدر بڑھا دے کہ آدمی نیکی ہی سے ہاتھ کھینچ لے۔ آئیے دیکھیں کہ یہی ڈر، ٹھیک جگہ رکھا جائے تو دشمن نہیں، مددگار بن جاتا ہے۔
نبی کریم ﷺ نے اِس خطرے سے آگاہ اِس لیے فرمایا کہ ہم اپنے اعمال کی حفاظت کریں، نہ کہ اعمال چھوڑ بیٹھیں
”مجھے تمہارے بارے میں سب سے زیادہ ڈر شرکِ اصغر یعنی چھوٹے شرک کا ہے۔” پوچھا گیا، شرکِ اصغر کیا ہے؟ فرمایا، ریا۔“

غور کیجیے، یہ تنبیہ صحابہ کرام کو ہو رہی تھی، اُن دلوں کو جن سے بہتر دل کوئی نہیں۔ مقصد شرمندہ کرنا نہیں تھا، سونے کو میل سے بچانا تھا۔ محبت میں دی گئی تنبیہ حفاظت ہوتی ہے، جیسے باپ بچے کا ہاتھ تھامے ہوئے بھی کہتا رہتا ہے، سنبھل کر، یہاں سیڑھی ہے۔
اور جس ذات کو آپ راضی کرنا چاہتے ہیں، وہ آپ کو پکڑنے کی تاک میں نہیں بیٹھی۔ اُس کا بلاوا سنیے
”کہہ دو، اے میرے بندو جنہوں نے اپنی جانوں پر زیادتی کی، اللہ کی رحمت سے مایوس نہ ہو، بے شک اللہ سارے گناہ بخش دیتا ہے۔“

جب اُس کی بخشش دور نکل جانے والوں تک پہنچتی ہے تو اُس بندے تک کیوں نہ پہنچے گی جو یہیں کھڑا ہے اور فکر صرف اِتنی ہے کہ نیت کہیں کھوٹی نہ ہو۔ ریا سے ڈرنے والا دل تو پہلے ہی اللہ کی طرف مڑا ہوا ہے، غافل دل اپنی نیت کی طرف پلٹ کر بھی نہیں دیکھتا۔ اور ریا کوئی ایسا اژدہا نہیں جو ہر نیکی نگل جائے۔ ریا یہ ہے کہ نیکی شروع ہی لوگوں کے دکھاوے کے لیے کی جائے۔ جو کام اللہ کے لیے شروع ہوا اور بیچ میں کوئی خیال آ گیا، تو اُس خیال کو جھٹک دینا خود ایک عبادت ہے، اور اللہ اِس کوشش کو ضائع نہیں کرتا۔
نقشبندی مجدّدی مشائخ کا مشورہ یہاں بہت کام کا ہے۔ وہ فرماتے ہیں، نیکی کے وقت یہ حساب نہ لگاؤ کہ کون دیکھ رہا ہے اور کون نہیں۔ شروع میں ایک لمحے کو دل اللہ کی طرف موڑ لو، “یہ تیرے لیے ہے”، پھر بے جھجک آگے بڑھ جاؤ۔ نیت سیدھی کر لینے کے بعد باقی معاملہ اُسی مالک پر چھوڑ دو جو دلوں کا حال جانتا ہے۔ پھر یہ ڈر خوف نہیں رہتا، ایک پہرے دار بن جاتا ہے جو آپ کے اخلاص کی حفاظت کرتا رہتا ہے۔
ایک چھوٹا قدم: آج کوئی ایک نیکی، خواہ کسی کو پانی ہی پلانا ہو، شروع کرنے سے پہلے دل میں صرف “یا اللہ، یہ تیرے لیے” کہیں، پھر مزید کچھ سوچے بغیر وہ کام کر گزریں اور باقی اپنے رب کی رحمت پر چھوڑ دیں۔
