Is being poor closer to Allah? Sometimes I feel guilty for being comfortable and wonder if my wealth is a barrier.کیا غریب ہونا اللہ کے زیادہ قریب ہے؟ کبھی کبھی میں آسودہ حال ہونے پر شرمندہ ہوتا ہوں اور سوچتا ہوں کہ کہیں میری دولت رکاوٹ تو نہیں۔
Nearness to Allah is not measured by what a person owns. Poverty does not by itself bring anyone closer, and comfort does not by itself push anyone away. Allah says this plainly in a passage that came to a people who had begun to imagine that plenty in wealth and children was itself the proof of His pleasure.
“And it is not your wealth or your children that bring you nearer to Us in position, but only one who believes and does righteousness; for them there will be a double reward for what they did.”

Notice what the ayah does. It does not say wealth pushes you away, nor that poverty pulls you close. It sets both aside, wealth and children alike, and points instead to the direction of the heart: faith, and righteous deeds. A man of means who believes and acts righteously is brought near by that faith and by those deeds, and the reward that is doubled is the reward of what he did, not of what he owned. The measure is the heart, not the ledger.
So where does wealth come in? It comes in as the field where such deeds are sown. The Prophet, peace be upon him, never looked down on the man of means who opens his hands in the way of Allah. He counted him as one of only two whose place may rightly be longed for.
“There is no envy except in two: a man whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the way of truth, and a man whom Allah has given wisdom, and he judges by it and teaches it.”

Remember Sulaiman, peace be upon him, as well. His kingdom, his treasures and his splendour are mentioned in the Qur’an with honour, never with blame. Allah did not strip away his dominion; He adorned it. Had wealth in itself been distance, it would never have been placed in the hands of a Prophet. What stands in the way is never the treasury. It is always where the heart turns.
And the sharing out of provision is Allah’s own arrangement.
“And Allah has favoured some of you over others in provision.”

Your comfort, then, is a share Allah chose to place with you: a trust and an opportunity, not a fault to grieve over. The one given more is appointed a trustee over it, so that the abundance may flow on to those in need. Guilt over what Allah gave you accomplishes nothing. Gratitude and generosity do. Hold it with thanks, earn it lawfully, turn a portion of it toward the needy, and the very comfort you were worried about becomes a road toward Him.
One small step: Today, quietly give a small amount from your comfort to someone in need, and as you give, say in your heart, “Ya Allah, let this wealth carry me nearer to You.”
اللہ سے قربت کا پیمانہ یہ نہیں کہ کسی کے پاس کتنا مال ہے۔ غربت بجائے خود قربت کی سیڑھی نہیں، اور دولت بجائے خود دوری کی دیوار نہیں۔ اصل چیز وہ دل ہے جو ایمان اور نیک عمل سے آباد ہو۔ یہ بات اللہ تعالیٰ نے وہاں کھول کر بیان فرمائی جہاں کچھ لوگ مال و اولاد کی فراوانی ہی کو اللہ کی خوشنودی کی سند سمجھ بیٹھے تھے:
”اور نہ تمہارے مال تمہیں ہماری بارگاہ میں قریب کرتے ہیں اور نہ تمہاری اولاد، مگر وہ جو ایمان لایا اور نیک عمل کیا، سو ایسے ہی لوگوں کے لیے ان کے عمل کا دُگنا بدلہ ہے۔“

غور کیجیے، آیت یہ نہیں کہتی کہ مال دور کر دیتا ہے، اور یہ بھی نہیں کہتی کہ تنگ دستی خود بخود قریب کر دیتی ہے۔ وہ مال اور اولاد، دونوں کو پیمانہ ماننے سے انکار کرتی ہے اور نظر دل کے رُخ کی طرف پھیر دیتی ہے، یعنی ایمان اور عملِ صالح کی طرف۔ صاحبِ حیثیت آدمی ایمان لائے اور نیک عمل کرے تو اُسی ایمان اور اُنہی اعمال کے سبب قریب ہوتا ہے، اور جو اجر دُگنا ہوتا ہے وہ اُس کے عمل کا ہے، اُس کی ملکیت کا نہیں۔ پیمانہ دل ہے، کھاتہ نہیں۔
تو پھر مال کا مقام کیا ہے؟ مال وہ میدان ہے جس میں یہی نیک اعمال بوئے جاتے ہیں۔ نبی کریم ﷺ نے اُس صاحبِ ثروت کو کبھی کم تر نہیں جانا جو اپنا مال اللہ کی راہ میں کھلے دل سے خرچ کرتا ہے، بلکہ اُسے اُن دو میں شمار فرمایا جن کے مقام کی تمنا کی جا سکتی ہے:
”دو کے سوا کسی پر رشک روا نہیں، ایک وہ جسے اللہ نے مال عطا کیا اور اُس نے اُسے حق کی راہ میں خرچ کرنے پر لگا دیا، اور دوسرا وہ جسے اللہ نے حکمت (علمِ دین) عطا کی، سو وہ اُس کے مطابق فیصلہ کرتا اور اُسے سکھاتا ہے۔“
نبی کریم ﷺ، صحیح بخاری (۱۴۰۹) · مفہوم
حضرت سلیمان علیہ السلام کو بھی یاد کیجیے۔ اُن کی بادشاہت، خزانوں اور شان و شوکت کا ذکر قرآن میں عزت کے ساتھ آیا ہے، ملامت کے ساتھ نہیں۔ اللہ نے اُن کی سلطنت چھینی نہیں، اُسے سجایا۔ اگر دولت بجائے خود دوری ہوتی تو کسی نبی کے ہاتھ میں کیوں دی جاتی؟ رکاوٹ خزانہ نہیں بنتا، رکاوٹ دل کا رُخ بنتا ہے۔
اور رزق کی تقسیم بھی اللہ ہی کے اختیار میں ہے:
”اور اللہ نے تم میں سے بعض کو رزق میں بعض پر فضیلت دی ہے۔“

اِس سے یہ بات نکلتی ہے کہ جسے زیادہ ملا، وہ دراصل امانت دار ٹھہرا، تاکہ یہ فراوانی اُس کے ہاتھ سے محتاجوں تک پہنچے۔ آپ کی آسودگی شرمندگی کی چیز نہیں، ایک ذمہ داری ہے۔ اللہ نے جو دیا ہے، اُس پر کڑھنے سے کچھ نہیں ملتا۔ ملتا شکر اور سخاوت سے ہے۔ اسے شکر کے ساتھ تھامیے، حلال سے کمائیے، اور اُس میں سے کچھ حصہ محتاجوں کی طرف موڑ دیجیے۔ پھر یہی آسودگی، جس پر آپ کو تشویش تھی، اللہ تک پہنچنے کا راستہ بن جائے گی۔
ایک چھوٹا قدم: آج اپنی آمدنی میں سے ایک چھوٹی سی رقم، چاہے وہ کتنی ہی معمولی ہو، خاموشی سے کسی ضرورت مند تک اس نیت سے پہنچا دیجیے کہ یہ اللہ کی دی ہوئی نعمت کا شکرانہ ہے۔
