Housework feels beneath me as a man. The Prophet was a leader and a warrior, surely he did not sweep floors or mend clothes at home?گھر کے کام کاج مجھے ایک مرد ہونے کے ناطے اپنے شایانِ شان نہیں لگتے۔ نبی کریم تو ایک قائد اور مجاہد تھے، یقیناً وہ گھر میں جھاڑو یا کپڑوں کی مرمت تو نہیں کرتے ہوں گے؟

I understand the feeling, and many good men carry it without ever being told otherwise. Somewhere along the way an idea settled into our culture that a man’s dignity lives above the broom and the needle. The truth is simpler, and it comes from the house of the Prophet himself, peace be upon him.

Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, was once asked what he used to do inside his own home.

“When Aisha was asked what the Prophet used to do in his house, she said: “He was in the service of his family, and when the time for prayer came, he would go out to pray.”

He was in the service of his family. The leader of leaders, the man whom armies obeyed, served inside his own house. It did not lower him; it was part of what made him what he was. Authority that only commands is common in the world. Authority that also serves is the prophetic kind.

“Aisha was asked how the Prophet was inside his house. She said: “He would mend his own sandals, patch his own garment, and work in his house as one of you works in his house.”

The same hands that were raised in du’a for all of us held a needle and a worn sandal. So when you sweep a floor or fold the clothes, you are not stepping down. You are following him, and there is no posture more honorable for a man than the one his Prophet chose.

There is a practical side to it as well. When a man shares the load of the house, the whole household breathes easier. And sons who watch their father serve tend to grow up steadier and more capable, and they carry that into their own homes later. Your help is a kindness to your wife and a lesson your children will keep.

So set down the old idea that the broom is beneath you. It is a door into the Sunnah, and it is standing open.

One small step: Choose one small household task this week, perhaps clearing the table after a meal or mending something that is torn, and do it yourself with the intention of following the way of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

آپ کے دل میں جو بات ہے، وہ صرف آپ کی نہیں۔ ہمارے ہاں یہ تصور نسل در نسل چلا آ رہا ہے کہ جھاڑو اور سوئی مرد کے مرتبے سے نیچے کی چیزیں ہیں۔ یہ گناہ کی بات نہیں، ماحول کی بنائی ہوئی سوچ ہے۔ مگر جس ہستی کا حوالہ آپ نے دیا ہے، اُسی کے گھر کا حال دیکھ لیجیے، بات صاف ہو جائے گی۔

آپ کی یہ بات درست ہے کہ حضور ﷺ قائد بھی تھے، مجاہد بھی اور حاکم بھی۔ اب یہ دیکھیے کہ وہی ہستی اپنے گھر کی چار دیواری میں کیا کرتی تھی۔ سیّدہ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے کسی نے یہی پوچھا تھا۔

”آپ ﷺ اپنے گھر والوں کے کام کاج میں لگے رہتے تھے، اور جب نماز کا وقت آ جاتا تو نماز کے لیے تشریف لے جاتے۔“

سیّدہ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا، صحیح بخاری (۶۷۶) · مفہوم

یعنی گھر والوں کے کام کاج میں لگے رہتے تھے۔ جن کے ایک اشارے پر ہزاروں جانثار حاضر ہو جاتے، وہ اپنے گھر میں اپنے ہاتھ سے کام کرتے تھے، اور اِس میں اُنہیں کوئی کمی محسوس نہ ہوئی۔ بڑائی صرف حکم دینے میں نہیں، خدمت کرنے میں بھی ہے، اور یہی نبی کریم ﷺ کا طریقہ ہے۔ بات یہیں نہیں رُکتی۔

”آپ ﷺ اپنا جوتا خود ٹانک لیتے، اپنا کپڑا خود سی لیتے، اور اپنے گھر میں یوں کام کرتے جیسے تم میں سے کوئی اپنے گھر کا کام کرتا ہے۔“

سیّدہ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا، مسند احمد (۲۵۳۴۱) · مفہوم

جو ہاتھ ہم سب کے لیے دعا میں اُٹھتے تھے، وہی سوئی اور پرانا جوتا تھامتے تھے۔ اب سوچیے، جو کام سب سے اعلیٰ انسان کی شان کے خلاف نہ تھے، وہ کسی مرد کا مرتبہ کیسے گھٹا سکتے ہیں۔ حقیقت اِس کے برعکس ہے۔ یہ کام آدمی کو نیچا نہیں کرتے، سنّت کے قریب کرتے ہیں۔

ایک عملی پہلو بھی ہے۔ جس گھر میں مرد کام میں ہاتھ بٹاتا ہے، وہاں سب کا بوجھ ہلکا رہتا ہے۔ اور جو بیٹے باپ کو گھر کا کام کرتے دیکھتے ہیں، وہ خود بھی سنبھلے ہوئے اور کام کے آدمی بنتے ہیں، اور آگے اپنے گھروں میں یہی روش لے جاتے ہیں۔ آپ کا ہاتھ بٹانا اہلیہ کے لیے آسانی ہے اور بچوں کے لیے ایک خاموش سبق۔

سو یہ خیال دل سے نکال دیجیے کہ جھاڑو آپ کے مرتبے سے کم تر ہے۔ یہ تو سنّت کا ایک کھلا دروازہ ہے۔

ایک چھوٹا قدم: آج گھر میں کوئی ایک چھوٹا سا کام، خواہ اپنا برتن خود اُٹھا کر رکھنا ہو یا بچوں کا بکھرا سامان سمیٹنا، سنّتِ نبوی ﷺ کی نیّت سے، بغیر کسی کے کہے، اپنے ہاتھ سے کر لیجیے۔
